Abstract: The high cost of medications is one reason that patients do not adhere to treatment plans. Providers can take actions to relieve the economic burden such as prescribing generic medications and offering patients information on various resources, including discount generic drug lists, discount cards, mail-order pharmacies, and prescription assistance programs.
