Abstract

Abstract: Opioid addiction and substance use disorders are a major problem in the United States. These conditions are present in many of the patients admitted to hospitals. This article discusses nursing assessment, management, and evaluation of acute pain in the presence of substance use disorder and what to do when a patient with addiction is already being treated with medications such as buprenorphine or methadone.
