Abstract

Age-related changes to the neuromyofascial system affect proprioception, reaction time, strength, balance, coordination, and gait. These changes diminish quality of life measures, the ability to perform activities of daily living, and physical independence. Fascia-focused Pilates for the older adult is a type of mindful movement. Fascia research findings are applied to the principles, equipment, and movement vocabulary of Joseph H. Pilates. This article suggests a movement sequence that improves the proprioception, balance, coordination, and gait for an 80-year-old female client.
