Abstract

Failure to detect and correct malnutrition in a timely manner results in increased healthcare costs and deterioration of nutritional status, leading to further medical complications. Identification of patients who are at nutritional risk and subsequent evaluation of care is a vital part of good clinical practice. Prealbumin may serve as a valuable tool to identify and monitor protein-energy malnutrition in the hospitalized patient.
