The Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) celebrates the recognition of Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, as the 2017 recipient of the Virginia K. Saba Nursing Informatics Leadership Award from Sigma Theta Tau International.

This international competition requires innovative and visionary work in the field of nursing informatics that has resulted in the significant advancement of the nursing informatics discipline. The individual's work also must achieve a recognizable and momentous public benefit, as judged by a panel of her/his nursing informatics' peers.

 

All of us who have worked with Joyce for the past decades know that she is a highly respected and recognized leader for her notable contributions in the areas of health policy and standards, health information technology, and education. Her leadership and accomplishments brought a trusted nursing informaticist's voice to the field of improving health outcomes through the development and adoption of effective information technologies.

 

Through her multiple national leadership positions, committee work, professional organizations, publications, and conference presentations, Joyce powerfully demonstrated the value of nursing contributions that impact quality, safety, and health outcomes to the field of healthcare informatics.

 

As her peers noted in her nomination, "Her keen insights, strategic vision, organizational skills, and ability to collaborate in building broad alliances established her as a credible leader and led to the formation of a national alliance of organizations, the Alliance for Nursing Informatics, which is co-sponsored by AMIA and HIMSS."

 

From all of us across the nursing informatics communities within ANI and beyond, we applaud this international recognition of nursing excellence. The substantial contributions achieved by Joyce Sensmeier throughout her career have made a meaningful difference for patients, frontline clinicians, and nurse informaticists around the world.
