Abstract

Accurate wound assessment is a critical component of effective wound management in any setting, because it drives topical therapy and signals progress or problems in the healing process (Cooper, 2000); in the home health setting, accurate assessment also reflects reimbursement. While accurate wound status assessment sounds simple it is actually complex. This column will address tips and techniques for assuring accurate wound assessment based on normal skin and tissue anatomy and wound healing physiology.
