I felt very strongly about "Patient Dumping Is Still a Problem" (AJN Reports, November 2018). I work for a Boston hospital whose mission statement is to provide excellent and accessible health services to all in need of care regardless of status or ability to pay, without exception. I am proud to be a part of an organization that does not dump patients but accepts, treats, and supports all.

We have a large homeless and drug-addicted population, and it is difficult to place these patients. But discharge is an important part of hospitalization, and it takes a team effort to make a patient's transition to outside care a success. Patient dumping is inexcusable and inhumane. Our medical system has become a big business in which greed has superseded compassion.
