The Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB) had a very busy and successful 2018, and 2019 is already upon us. I am honored to represent the PSNCB as the President in which our most important goal has been to promote the highest standards of plastic and reconstructive surgical nursing practice through the process of certification and recertification.

In order to maintain these high standards, the Board works diligently on the development, implementation, and evaluation of each piece of the certification process. The website and applications for both certification and recertification have been completely reviewed and updated. We maintain regular communication among Board members to ensure that we are all holding true to the high standards of the PSNCB, as we review each and every recertification packet that is submitted. The online recertification portal has been enhanced to allow nurses to upload continuing education certificates 1 month after their recertification date. This new upgrade allows nurses to upload their documents throughout the year instead of feeling the pressure of doing everything within weeks prior to their expiration date. In addition, a technical support link has been added for anyone having difficulty with the online recertification application.

The PSNCB believes that attainment of a common knowledge base, utilization of the nursing process, and a high level of skill in the practice setting are required for the proficient practice in the specialty of plastic surgical and aesthetic nursing. Our certifications provide recognition of these achievements. In 2018, we had 75 newly certified nurses who passed the CANS examination and 19 who passed the CPSN examination. In addition, there were 99 nurses who successfully completed their recertification.

My work as the President of the PSNCB is successful because of the hard work and high level of commitment of my Board members. These wonderful individuals deserve recognition:

* Secretary-Treasurer-Sharon Fritzsche

* Director-Marilyn Cassetta

* Director-Lisa Griffin

* Director-Kathy Mortl

* Public Member-Mary Totten

* ISPAN Board Liaison-Gerri Obi

Respectfully Submitted,
