Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of abdominal massage in the management of age-related constipation.

 

Subject and Methods: Thirty participant control groups and 30 other participants constituted the treatment group. When the abdominal massage was applied to the treatment group for 15 minutes for 4 weeks, it was not applied to the control group.

 

Results: As a result of applying abdominal massage for 4 weeks, both groups had a significant increase in the diagnostic criteria of Rome III. According to Bristol Stool Scale, the constipation problems were improved in the treatment group.

 

Conclusions: Abdominal massage has been found as an effective method for the management of constipation commonly seen in the elderly.
