Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the level of agreement between Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and the A.S.P.E.N./Academy framework (AAF) in identifying malnutrition among adults on maintenance hemodialysis. In a secondary analysis, participants (N = 80) were evaluated using surrogate markers for the AAF and results were compared with SGA scores. Malnutrition prevalence identified by the AAF and SGA was 25% (n = 20) and 78.8% (n = 63), respectively. A [kappa] value of 0.131 indicated only slight agreement between the 2 tools. Prospective trials should be conducted that compare malnutrition identification by using the 2 tools.
