I was surprised to see a photograph of a nurse giving an injection without wearing gloves (Emerging Infections, "Vaccine-Preventable Infections in Children," February 2004). This is a violation of standard precautions and sends a bad message at a time when infectious diseases are cropping up around the world.

Also, the nurse is not demonstrating the best injection technique-she is virtually stabbing the child. No wonder he is sobbing!!
