Abstract

Editor's Note: As a new feature, the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice will publish an "Ethics in Public Health" Column. We are fortunate that Robert S. Olick, JD, PhD, has agreed to serve as column editor. He is an associate professor in the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he teaches health law and medical ethics. He has written on a range of issues at the intersection of health care, ethics, law, and policy, including the book, Taking Advance Directives Seriously: Prospective Autonomy and Decisions Near the End of Life (Georgetown University Press, 2001). Among his previous positions, he served as Executive Director of the New Jersey Bioethics Commission and as Chief Consultant to that state's Governor's Advisory Council on AIDS. The column will provide commentary and opinions on timely and important ethical issues in relation to public health practice. Individuals who want to have contributions considered for publication in this column can send these to [email protected] or [email protected]. Submissions should be limited to 750 words. In addition, readers can pose questions to our column editor, and where feasible, these will be addressed in future columns.
