"Surviving Your First Code" (Transition to Practice, July) is an excellent tool for any new nurses to familiarize themselves with a code situation.

One piece of advice in the article, "Take nothing personally," is relevant to any situation in the hospital setting. This advice is very important for the novice nurse to hear, because everything feels personal when you are a new nurse. I recently learned the acronym QTIP (Quit Taking It Personally). It can be applied to any tense situation to help us focus on the bottom line: providing the best care for our patients every day and in every situation.
