Abstract

Nearly 4 million people in the United States are infected with the hepatitis C virus, which already has caused 8,000 to 10,000 deaths annually. The morbidity may increase to 30,000 in the next two decades. Currently, in the nursing and healthcare literature, there is little information regarding the actual experiences of people living with hepatitis C. To help meet that need, I would like to describe my personal experiences with hepatitis C as I transitioned from nurse to patient. This is the story of the beginning of my journey.
