The new Thermoskin brand products, which Swede-O distributes nationally, include the Thermal Foot Gauntlet and Thermoskin AFG Stabilizer. The nonskid Thermal Foot Gauntlet is designed to relieve pain associated with diabetes, arthritis, and Raynaud's disease. Besides relieving pain from these and other conditions, the Thermoskin AFG Stabilizer also provides ankle support. Both products include a new rubber sole, the Safety Sole, for extra traction and durability.

Coloplast, Atlanta, GA, offers the Coloplast S.A.M.E. Hand Hygiene Program to help hospitals and nursing homes adhere to specific hand hygiene guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health-care Organizations. S.A.M.E. stands for Soap and water, Alcohol-based hand rub, Moisturization, and Education. Coloplast markets a range of cleansing and moisturizing products.

 

The program also includes product, educational, and compliance documentation tools. Educational offerings include posters reminding staff, patients, residents, and visitors to wash their hands when entering a facility or in a patient's room to help prevent possible contamination.

Cambrex Corporation, East Rutherford, NJ, and Ortec International, Inc, New York, have entered into a multiyear agreement for Cambrex to market and distribute ORCEL, a bioactive wound care product to treat chronic and acute wounds, such as venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and donor site wounds in burn patients.

Cynosure, Inc, Chelmsford, MA, has been awarded a patent for its optical radiationtreatment intended to enhance wound healing. The patent describes a method for reducing healing time for a wound or a surgical site on the skin. It does this with an optical radiation apparatus such as a pulse dye laser. Currently, the company's dye laser technology is being used to treat existing scar tissue. The invention is designed to explore opportunities to treat wounds before scarring begins.

Uroplasty, Inc, Minneapolis, MN, has entered into an exclusive manufacturing and marketing agreement with CL Medical, Lyon, France, to manufacture and sell I-Stop tape in the United States. Developed by CL Medical, the tape is a new generation, midurethral sling that is intended to treat stress urinary incontinence in women.

 

With the signing of this agreement, Uroplasty will proceed with Food and Drug Administration submissions for the introduction of I-Stop tape in the United States.
