Billions in new subsidies available on People who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace will be able to slash their premiums significantly over the next two years with the enactment of the American Rescue Plan, the COVID-19 relief bill passed in March. Cost for the insurance now ranges from 0% to 8.5% of a person's income, a decrease from the previous range of 2% to 9.8%, which can mean annual savings of hundreds of dollars for some enrollees. Additionally, the federal poverty level requirement was removed, making those who earn more than 400% of the federal poverty level eligible for help with premiums. Enrollees must go to and reenroll in their coverage for the savings to be applied. Along with making health insurance more affordable, the Biden administration is investing in a robust marketing campaign to help more people enroll in coverage and ensure that those already enrolled receive the enhanced subsidies.
