CARES for Our Seniors Act. The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living called on Congress to consider their CARE for Our Seniors Act (http://www.ahcancal.org/Advocacy/Pages/Care-For-Our-Seniors-Act.aspx). Noting the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on an already stressed long-term care system, the CARE for Our Seniors Act advocates for change in four areas: clinical improvements to enhance care, workforce improvements to support frontline caregivers, oversight reforms to make systems more resident driven, and structural modernizations to support residents' dignity and safety. Key to the reforms is increasing Medicaid reimbursement rates to cover the full cost of nursing home care. Medicaid, the primary source of payment for U.S. nursing home care, currently covers only about 70% to 80% of a resident's care.
