Mississippi sues drugmakers and benefit managers over soaring insulin costs. Mississippi attorney general Lynn Fitch announced a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi, and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) in CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, and OptumRx, alleging an insulin pricing scheme that inflated the cost of insulin by 1,000% over the last decade. This is not the first time that a state has sued drug companies for artificially inflating insulin costs (Minnesota did so in 2018 and Kentucky in 2019) but it is the first lawsuit that jointly names drug companies and PBMs, claiming they are engaged in a "fraudulent conspiracy" to manipulate drug prices.
