This month, we are highlighting the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) Policy and Advocacy Committee. The committee strives to support and promote the involvement of ANAC members in matters of public policy, pertaining to HIV nursing, and patient advocacy, for and with persons living with or affected by HIV disease. The committee is dedicated to ensuring that the voice of HIV nursing is sought out, respected, and acted on when issues of policy and advocacy are being discussed and decided. It works to increase member awareness and understanding of policy issues through information exchange among members and ongoing education, and it promotes the involvement of ANAC in policy activities. For more information on the committee visit: https://www.nursesinaidscare.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3320.

The committee welcomes new members. If you are interested in learning more about the policy committee, please contact Hina Ahmed at mailto:[email protected]. The Policy Committee periodically drafts or updates the ANAC policy agenda for adoption by the ANAC Board of Directors. Our policy agenda is organized around four pillars: (a) advocacy for full access to care for all people living with HIV, (b) advocacy for human rights, including decriminalization of HIV and support for full LGBT rights in all jurisdictions, (c) support for the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based and scientifically driven HIV treatment and prevention programs, and (d) support for HIV provider workforce development.
