Abstract

ABSTRACT: Vaccine preventable eruptions deserve special attention in pediatrics, because early recognition speeds testing, contact tracing, treatment, reporting, and prevention. Addressing these diseases is especially important during any time when immunization rates may have lagged because of lack of access, vaccine hesitancy, or other reasons. Focusing on cutaneous manifestations of vaccine preventable diseases in pediatrics, the following diseases are discussed: measles, rubella, varicella, smallpox, and meningococcemia. Key factors identified to help differentiate such diseases from others include location, distribution, and courses of the presenting primary lesions.
