This year marks the 30th anniversary of The Journal of Nursing Research (JNR). The journal has grown significantly over the past 30 years, becoming more international and having an increasing impact on nursing care. As the second official journal of the Taiwan Nurses' Association, JNR was launched as a Chinese-only publication in 1993. Reflecting the strong commitment of its editorial staff to enhancing nursing science and healthcare worldwide, JNR began publishing in English in June 2001. The dedication of its editorial board and worldwide network of reviewers and researchers earned JNR's indexing in Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) in 2012 and increasing recognition as an internationally respected nursing journal.

As an SCI- and SSCI-indexed journal, JNR has seen its influence on international nursing society grow in its rising readership and growing submissions base. To enhance international knowledge dissemination and interactions, JNR has operated as an open-access, article-processing-charge-free academic journal since 2019. Through multifaceted efforts and rigorous review, JNR today has a proven impact, with a readership spanning nearly 200 countries. Countries topping the list of JNR readership include the United States, Taiwan, Australia, Turkey, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and India. In 2020, JNR received nearly 1,000 manuscript submissions from 60 countries. The success of JNR is also shown in its impact factor, which began at less than 1 and (as of 2020) is now at 1.682, indicating a growing number of JNR citations in the literature.

On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, JNR remains committed to becoming a top-ranked international journal dedicated to enhancing the nursing sciences. In addition to publishing in-depth qualitative research and descriptive-correlational studies that explore the critical healthcare-related issues faced by patients, caregivers, nurses, and systems, JNR will target and publish more intervention-directed research and systematic reviews to provide top-level evidence to cultivate evidence-based nursing science, practice, and policies and to enhance the impacts of nursing and healthcare systems.

Thirty years is a young and productive age both for humans and for up-and-coming journals. As an important citizen of the healthcare system, nurses play an invaluable role in protecting health, preventing disease and health threats, and relieving suffering. JNR will continue targeting research that addresses the most important health threats and chronic care issues, caregivers' concerns and suffering, innovative nursing interventions, health equality, effective approaches to infectious disease control, innovative nursing education, and healthcare and nursing policies. The future holds unlimited possibilities for JNR in terms of its potential impacts on healthcare both today and tomorrow.

The contributors who have helped make JNR what it is today deserve much gratitude. JNR is continuing to grow and improve and is expected to be one of the top journals contributing to nursing science and the healthcare system in the next decade. Happy birthday to JNR!
