JCR Do-Not-Use Abbreviations Kit and Hand Hygiene Buttons

The Joint Commissions Resources (JCR) has announced the release of the Spell It Out!! toolkit. The Spell It Out!! toolkit is designed to help healthcare organizations eliminate the use of dangerous medical abbre-viations, acronyms, and symbols. The toolkit uses common workplace items to remind healthcare profes-sionals about the list of do-not-use abbreviations and provides the ratio-nale for spelling out certain terms.

The kit includes: 2 clipboards, 10 laminated posters, 10 pocket-sized quick-reference cards, 10 sticker sheets, and 5 multi-click pens with a window that displays all the do-not-use abbreviations.

JCR also has developed hand hy-giene buttons to encourage patients to ask and remind healthcare staff to wash their hands. The buttons in-stantly communicate to patients the healthcare organization's commitment to stopping the spread of infections.

Pins are available in English, Span-ish, Arabic, Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, French, German, Italian, and Japanese.
