Dubbed the "forgotten" or "lonely" cancer, sarcoma is a rare cancer of the bones and soft tissues that can affect children and adults. About 60% of sarcomas are found as localized, 18% are found in a locally advanced stage, and 15% are found in a metastatic stage. The survival rate for each is approximately, 81%, 56%, and 16%, respectively.1 Share these resources in observance of Sarcoma Awareness Month this July.

 

American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO)

Founded in 1970 by parents of children diagnosed with cancer, ACCO is the oldest and largest grassroots organization in the US dedicated to childhood cancer. They offer free resources, community support for patients, and advocacy for cancer research.

 

Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA)

Formed in 2000 by the parents of a 3-year-old diagnosed with sarcoma, SFA advocates for increased government funding for sarcoma research and treatment, collaborates with biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, promotes early detection of sarcoma, and provides support for patients with sarcoma.

CureSearch's mission is to find a cure for childhood cancer by "driving targeted and innovative research with measurable results in an accelerated time frame." They support translational research and bridging the gap between research and bedside care. They also organize various activities to raise awareness about sarcoma, including its CureSearch Walk, Hike, Challenge.

 

The Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA)

Founded in 1988 by a group of surgeons with shared interests in sarcoma, ANZSA aims to identify cutting-edge therapies and provide best-practice care for patients with sarcoma.
