Abstract

Two Wisconsin healthcare systems created a common definition and identified the essential components for a model nurse residency program (NRP). This community learning design was based on action learning principles. The results demonstrated improved retention, critical thinking, socialization, ability to manage stress, and problem-solving skills in new graduate nurses. The findings suggest that significant redesign of traditional learning methodology is required to achieve desired goals.
