Dermacyn Wound Care OTC. A consumer-specific version of Dermacyn Wound Care (Oculus Innovative Sciences, Petaluma, CA) has been approved as an over-the-counter (OTC) product in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration approved the OTC product with more limited claims than the prescription Dermacyn formula, which is used for moistening absorbent wound dressings and for debriding and cleaning acute and chronic wounds. The new consumer brand is intended for general purpose use, including the moistening of absorbent wound dressings and cleansing of minor and superficial skin abrasions.

The SilverSeal line of wound care products from Noble Biomaterials, Scranton, PA, has received 7 Food and Drug Administration approvals, including wound contact dressing, burn contact dressing, hydrogel, hydrocolloid, cast component, ortho component, and bandages. The company's X-STATIC product is a part of these products, and it is effective in killing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Under the agreement, HEALTHPOINT's affiliate will assume ownership and operation of BioSpecifics' manufacturing facility in Curacao and other assets in Lynbrook, NY, that are owned by BioSpecifics' affiliate, Advance Biofactures Corporation.

 

HEALTHPOINT's affiliate expects to invest $1.5 million in upgrading the acquired manufacturing facility, which currently produces Collagenase ABC, an enzyme derived from the fermentation of the bacterium Clostridium histolyticum.

The Compass Group International, LLC, and Hollywood Capital, Inc, Los Angeles, CA, have announced the formation and capitalization of Anodyne Medical Device, Inc (Los Angeles, CA), to acquire manufacturers of medical support surfaces. The new company has now acquired AMF Support Surfaces, Inc, Corona, CA, and SenTech Medical Systems, Inc, Coral Springs, FL. Anodyne is the only developer and manufacturer of medical support surfaces with facilities located on both coasts of the United States, according to the corporation.

 

AMF Support Surfaces, Inc, manufactures a line of specialty medical devices for the treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers. Products include powered and static mattress replacement systems, mattress overlays, seating cushions, and patient positioning devices. SenTech Medical Systems, Inc, designs and manufactures advanced electronically controlled alternating pressure, low-air-loss, and lateral rotation specialty support surfaces for the wound care industry.
