It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of our Journal for Nurses in Professional Development (JNPD) Board Member and Editor of the "Ask the Leader" column Dennis P. Doherty, PhD, RN, NPDA-BC, who passed away on February 12, 2023, after a battle with cancer.

Dr. Doherty became a member of the JNPD Board of Directors in January 2022. As the editor of the Ask the Leader column, Dennis had a great vision for the column, exploring how leaders in professional development influence the practice of nursing professional development. Although his time on the JNPD Board of Directors was short, Dennis made an immediate impact with his "can do" attitude and strong professional work ethic! He applied his extensive expertise in nursing professional development and nursing to enhance JNPD for our readers.

Dennis was Senior Professional Development Specialist at Boston Children's Hospital. He was elected to the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Board of Directors in 2022. He served on the Consultative Function Task Force and Convention Content Planning Committee. He was also a graduate of the ANPD Evidence-Based Practice Academy. From 2016 to 2017, he served as President of the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. You can learn more about Dr. Doherty in our ANPD Update column in the May/June issue.

On behalf of the JNPD Board of Directors, we were honored to have worked with Dennis. As stated by Sheila St. Cyr, ANPD President, Dennis was "a vocal advocate for the value of nursing professional development. He was a voice for frontline nurses, creating healthy work environments, promoting interprofessional education, refreshing high-reliability practices, and supporting DEI efforts." He surely will be missed!

The JNPD board honored Dennis at our board at the ANPD convention.

Sincerely,

Kathleen G Burke
