Increased partnerships between health care systems and schools of nursing are being encouraged on multiple fronts. One creative and easy way to support nurses and build relationships between the schools and health care facilities is to provide breakroom baskets. These baskets include small items to help nurses during their long shifts at the hospital. Ideas to include in the breakroom baskets include small snacks, protein bars, energy drinks, apples, or muffins. In addition, the baskets include encouraging notes as well as marketing items from the university, such as cups and pens. Opportunities to partner with the university are also included in the baskets. These opportunities could include information on returning to school, becoming a preceptor, or being an adjunct faculty member. Working as a nurse through a worldwide pandemic increased the workload and stress levels of many nurses. Small acts of kindness, such as the breakroom basket, can help nurses feel more supported and valued. These baskets may be a small first step in strengthening the partnerships between local health care facilities and universities.
