Thank you for "The Case for Retaining Experienced RNs" (In the News, August) and for referring to ergonomic issues as one strategy. With nurses leaving their jobs because of back injuries, a campaign should be mounted for light-duty jobs to retain injured nurses. After all, it is the nurse's back, not her brain, that is damaged. Nurses disabled as a result of dangerous lifting should not be expected to go away, with no assistance in remaining with their employers.
