Critical thinking skills are the heart and soul of nursing in all settings. Critical thinking skills allow us to use the nursing process effectively to provide patient care. How can we enhance our use of critical thinking in the GI Lab? What does it mean to be a critical thinker in the GI Lab? Do we use a different critical thinking skill set in the GI Lab? In this presentation, critical thinking skills will be defined, methods for teaching and increasing critical thinking skills discussed, and critical thinking decision/education trees for the GI Lab described.

We are pleased to present the abstracts from SGNA's 34th Annual Course, Charting a Course for Professional Growth. The diversity of these topics certainly reflects the richness and breadth of our specialty. In keeping with the tradition of the Annual Course, we hope the following abstracts will encourage discussions for improving nursing practice and patient care outcomes.
