The Blue Star is the symbol for colon cancer awareness. This presentation is designed to motivate your local regional to develop a colon cancer awareness team. This team would be instrumental for: 1) bringing your members together; 2) educating the public; 3) providing community service and 4) making a difference. The key concepts to be discussed are how to get started and make your dream become a reality. The development of the 2005 Arizona SGNA colon cancer awareness team will be presented. The planning, implementation and evaluation of colon cancer awareness programs will be described in detail. Tools and resources to develop this team will be identified. PowerPoint lectures created by team members will be presented on "Understanding Colon Cancer," "Preventing Colon Cancer," and "Patient Teaching for Colonoscopy." The goal of this presentation is to demonstrate methods to get members active in their regional society to educate the public that colon cancer is "preventable, treatable and beatable."
