Digestive Endoscopy continues to evolve rapidly. By 2020, we expect traditional diagnostic procedures to have been replaced largely by other technologies (e.g. serological testing, capsules, self-advancing instruments, and CT colonography), many of them managed by nurses and technicians. Therapeutic endoscopy will expand to include new territories such as obesity management and intraabdominal procedures. These trends have enormous implications for the training and practice of future gastroenterology clinicians.
