Abstract

The Institute of Medicine proposes a healthcare system with greater transparency for patients and their families. And yet, the extent to which nursing-sensitive performance measures have been adopted and publicly reported is relatively modest. As a step toward achieving greater transparency, the authors briefly describe the state of nursing-sensitive performance measurement and summarize a study completed by the National Quality Forum in 2007. With this information, nursing leaders can help accelerate the adoption of nursing-sensitive quality measures.
