The Physician's Certification Exam, by the Council for Medical Education and Testing, endorsed by the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA), and recognized by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine will be offered in conjunction with 4 upcoming conferences. Scheduled exam dates are: September 12, 2008, in New Orleans, Louisiana, in conjunction with the New Horizons Cardiovascular Conference; October 30, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in conjunction with the Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin and Wound Care; November 20, 2008, in New York City, New York, in conjunction with the Vieth Symposium; and on April 5, 2009, at the APWCA National Clinical Conference, "Wound Care and the Related Sciences" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Over 2.5 years in the making, this examination is designed to assess a knowledge base consistent with physicians clinically practicing wound care. This first physician exam is considered an initial step toward achieving specialty recognition by the American Board of Medical Specialties, American Osteopathic Association, and the Council of Podiatric Medical Education. The APWCA is offering a wound care review and refresher course, appropriate for certification preparation, in January 2009.
