I'm responding to, "Which Site Is Best for an I.M. Injection?" (Clinical Queries, November 2008).* I'd like to challenge nurse-researchers to develop a better way to select the site for a ventrogluteal injection than by using their hands as a guide. Some nurses' hands are very large and others are very small. Consequently, the site selected using the current method could vary greatly, and even be entirely wrong, depending on the size of the patient's body and the nurse's hands.

We need a site selection method that uses only the patient's body landmarks-as in the selection of the deltoid and vastus lateralis site-to enhance patient safety and comfort.
