The purpose of this presentation is to introduce endoscopy nurses to eosinophilic esophagitis and its impact on the healthcare professional and patient/ family systems. The presenters will briefly discuss the disease of eosinophilic esophagitis, including pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, causes, potential treatment modalities, and prognosis. The impact of the disease on the health care professional, especially the endoscopy and clinical nurse will be discussed. The impact of the disease on the patient and the family will be discussed at length. Two nurses who have personal and professional experience with patients and families who are affected by this disease will present this information with an open discussion to follow.
