Abstract

This descriptive pilot research study used qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the effectiveness of a computerized physician order entry system. Surveys were given to nursing, allied health personnel, and physicians, and responses were compared. Written and verbal orders were compared preimplementation and postimplementation, and there was a decrease in verbal orders. Results of this study can be useful to staff development educators implementing or evaluating computerized physician order entry systems.
