District of Columbia (DC) CE Requirements for License Renewal

As a nurse in DC, you are required to earn continuing education to renew your active license. All of our CE activities are accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To assist you in meeting your state’s continuing education requirements, we have added links to related topics. Please ensure that any activity meets the requirements of your state board of nursing.

Renewal Requirements

RN 

• Every two years
  • 24 hours of continuing education 
    • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
    • 10% of the total shall be in subjects determined by the Director as public health priorities of the District

LPN

• Every two years
  • 18 hours of continuing education
    • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
    • 10% of the total shall be in subjects determined by the Director as public health priorities of the District

Advanced Practice

• Every 2 years
  • 24 hours of continuing education, including 15 pharmacology hours in area of practice 
    • 2 hours LGBTQ or cultural awareness
    • 10% of the total shall be in subjects determined by the Director as public health priorities of the District
