ConvaTec, Skillman, New Jersey, has received 510(k) market clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for Aquacel Ag Foam Dressing. The silver foam dressing offers the moist wound healing benefits of an Aquacel Ag interface, the comfort of foam, and the bacteria-killing power of ionic silver, according to the manufacturer. ConvaTec reported its proprietary Hydrofiber Technology with ionic silver contained in Aquacel Ag Foam dressing has been shown, in vitro, to kill a variety of pathogens, including certain "superbugs," such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant enterococci within 30 minutes, and provide sustained bacteria killing for up to 7 days.

Kinetic Concepts, Inc (KCI), San Antonio, Texas, announced that its CelluTome Epidermal Harvesting System is commercially available in the United States. The system offers an automated, precise, and reproducible process of harvesting autologous, nondamaged epidermal tissue. The simplicity of the new system makes the benefits of epidermal grafting accessible to a much broader range of clinicians and patients than before, according to the manufacturer. This new skin harvesting platform will enable physicians to harvest epidermal grafts consistently and reliably while minimizing donor-site complications. The epidermal micrografts harvested with the CelluTome System can be used in conjunction with KCI V.A.C. Therapy.
