This app isn't designed specifically for nurses; however, it's a great resource to have when studying for exams. gFlash is a free-for-download flashcard app that allows users to create, download, and edit flashcards for almost any subject imaginable. It's compatible with iOS 6.1 or later devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch).

The Nursing Drug Handbook app provides nurses with access to over 900 generic name drugs and more than 3,000 trade name drugs. With an emphasis on drug administration safety, it informs nurses about the newest approved drugs, approved and off-label uses, contraindications and precautions, and adverse drug reactions. It's reviewed weekly by pharmacists and nurses to keep it current. This app is compatible with Apple and Android devices.

Lippincott's Nursing Advisor answers questions related to diseases and conditions, diagnostic tests, treatments, signs and symptoms, and more. It's updated four times a year. Clinicians can add their own protocols and notes to existing categories within the app, which is compatible with Apple and Android devices.

Medigram, a secure group messaging app, is downloadable on personal mobile devices. It was designed to improve communication and coordinate care among healthcare providers.
