Abstract

Sleep disturbances are the second most common complaint assessed in adult medicine. American adults routinely report regular sleep disorder symptoms at least a few times a week, but only 5% of patients have been officially diagnosed with insomnia. This article reviews diagnosing and treating primary insomnia, including pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions.
