Abstract
Autism is a more common developmental disability than previously thought. Pediatric nurse practitioners and family nurse practitioners who provide primary care to children can reasonably expect to follow at least one child with autism. This article reviews general information about autism and the current recommendations for screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
