| Dear
Colleague,
August
is National Immunization Awareness Month. This time of year
is appropriate as kids are getting ready to go back to school
and we are all preparing for the upcoming influenza season.
This year, due to the H1N1 influenza pandemic, increasing
awareness is more important than ever.
Peruse the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention's resource on vaccines
and immunizations and access immunization
schedules for children, adolescents, and adults. Remind
patients that immunizations have eradicated diseases such
as smallpox and reduced the number of cases of measles, diphtheria,
rubella, pertussis and other diseases. Also, encourage patients
to follow recommendations for influenza vaccination this fall.
Read more about immunizations
and vaccines by exploring the articles in More Resources.
Don't miss our next enewsletter about urinary
tract infections, plus new articles and CEs.

When
I read this column in Nursing2009, I often find
the answers that many of us are too afraid to ask or just never get around
to asking! Read about such dilemmas as documenting complaints in electronic
medical records, obtaining consent for transfusion of blood derivatives
such as albumin and IVIG, how to handle being "caught in the middle"
as a witness to a medication error and more. Take some time to read ADVICE
P.R.N.
