Dear
Colleague,
In this month's issue of American Journal of Nursing, there is an article about how nurses got creative with discharge instructions for a patient with a wound. The patient had had an accident with farming equipment that led to a severe wound to his arm which required plastic surgery followed by an extensive wound care regimen. When it was time for discharge, the nurse was aware that the patient and his caregivers would benefit from more than written or verbal instructions.
The solution? The nurse used the patient's mobile phone to photograph the steps involved with his wound care and record her instructions. What a fine example of an innovative and individualized approach to patient care! This article, Got the Picture? Using Mobile Phone Technology to Reinforce Discharge Instructions, can be read free online as part of our More Resources collection. Be sure to check out our other selections about wound care as well!
