Dear Colleague,
While exploring our journals for articles related to wound care and catching up on the latest evidence, I was amazed at how much has changed! Below are some highlights of what I learned:
- The CDC estimates that by 2050, as many as 1 in 3 Americans will have diabetes. Certified foot and nail care nurses (CFCN) add value to efforts to reduce infection and lower extremity amputation.
- Wound care protocols are beneficial in that they ensure continuity of care; provide consistency; can be evidence-based, individualized, and multidisciplinary; and can decrease supply and labor costs.
- Successful wound healing depends on a moist environment.
- There are more than 15 factors which can increase the risk of complications with negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT), including anticoagulant use, infected wounds, and sharp edges in the wound.
- There are several clinical practice guidelines and helpful tools related to pressure ulcer prevention:
Continue your learning by reading the articles in More Resources. All of the articles in this collection can be read free online – enjoy!
Sincerely,
Lisa Bonsall, MSN, RN, CRNP
Clinical Editor
