Patient safety has always been a fundamental issue for nurse leaders. The current quest for transparency in healthcare keeps patient safety a paramount concern. Clinical quality improvement and practice-based research projects often have indicators that relate to the impact on patient safety when processes are evaluated and either designed or re-designed.

The following content from recent editions of JONA and Nursing Management highlights various safety considerations and initiatives, from designating patient safety officers to using strategic stakeholder analysis to spur change.

If you’re attending Nursing Management’s Congress in Nashville next week, don’t miss the executive networking session led by me and Nursing Management’s Editor-in-Chief Rich Hader. We’ll discuss creating accountable care organizations and how nurse leaders at all levels can ensure the highest care at the lowest cost. (Visit www.NMCongress.com for more details.)

Sincerely,

Karen S. Hill, RN, DNP, NEA-BC, FACHE
Editor-in-Chief, JONA
