According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s 2011 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities reports, healthcare quality is improving faster than access to care and disparities in care.
Preterm births on the rise
The World Health Organization’s report “Born Too Soon: The Global Action Report on Preterm Birth” provides the first-ever national, regional, and global estimates of preterm birth. The report shows the extent to which preterm birth is on the rise in most countries, and is now the second leading cause of death globally for children under five, after pneumonia.

The Joint Commission has launched the HAI Portal to provide an integrated “kiosk” of healthcare-associated infection resources, including those that are free and for purchase, in one organized area that’s accessible through any of The Joint Commission related websites.
CDC: CLABSI rates down
The CDC reports a 32% reduction in central line-associated bloodstream infections based on the 2,403 hospitals that reported data to the National Healthcare Safety Network in 2010.
