Abstract

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are serious neurodevelopmental disorders. The prevalence of ASDs has risen drastically in the past decade. Simultaneously, the rate of breastfeeding initiation has dramatically increased and researchers have started to investigate the potential link between the 2 occurrences. This article reviews the current literature on the impact of breastfeeding on ASDs development and whether a lack of breastfeeding contributes to an increased risk of ASDs.
