Abstract

Abstract: Having culturally competent nurse educators is crucial to preparing future nurses to meet the health needs of a diverse and multicultural United States population. The authors explored the perspectives of 21 clinical nurse educators on a variety of clinical nursing situations related to cultural diversity. They identified five themes that emerged from a content analysis and represented a range of perspectives. The authors recommend three strategies to be integrated into programs that will educate nursing students in providing care to a diverse patient population.
