Abstract

With improved therapy, HIV is becoming a more manageable condition, and many patients now live longer, healthier lives. HIV infection is often overlooked in older individuals, however, and disease symptoms are confused with other chronic conditions. Polypharmacy and complex drug interactions lead to inaccurate diagnoses and inadequate treatment. This article discusses some of the complications primary care providers encounter and approaches to treating older HIV patients.
