dermaPACE device. Sanuwave Health, Inc, has announced the development of a novel device to treat acute and chronic defects of the skin and subcutaneous soft tissues, such as partial-thickness burns and diabetic ulcers. The dermaPACE device is based on pulsed acoustic cellular expression (PACE, or shockwave) therapy that was developed decades ago to treat kidney stones. The PACE waves are sent directly into the wound bed via an applicator; treatment times and number of treatments vary depending on the wound condition. According to the manufacturer, the device stimulates a positive inflammatory response and increases leukocyte activation, allowing the wound to progress through the stages of wound healing, promoting wound healing and closure, and potentially reducing the likelihood that a chronic wound will recur.
